Sun damage pigmentation rescue.

Our photofacial treatment targets sun damage, age spots, sun spots, and freckles by pulsing light-based energy to the unwanted pigmentation.  This targeted increase in temperature causes the unwanted pigment to rise which helps to break up the pigment. As we age our skin starts to shows the cumulative effect of sun damage in the form of hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone.

Hyperpigmentation is caused by an increase in melanin. Melanin is the natural pigment that gives our skin, hair, and eyes their color. A number of factors can trigger an increase in melanin production, but the main ones are sun exposure, hormonal influence, and age.

How does it work?

A photofacial treatment takes about 15-30 minutes, depending on the size of the targeted areas. There isn’t any downtime with this treatment.  However the broken melanin will rise to the surface of the skin.  Giving the surface of the skin a coffee grind or peppering look.  The shattered melanin particles are eliminated by your body’s own “clean up” system that absorbs the fragmented pigmented.  This peppering can be covered easily with foundation.

What do photofacials treat?

  • Sun spots.
  • Age or brown spots.
  • Freckles.
  • Uneven pigmentation or skin tone.
  • Hyperpigmentation.

Post treatment, clients can expect a mild sun-burn sensation, possibly accompanied by some minor swelling or some redness. This usually lasts 2-24 hours, and can be soothed with ice packs and aloe.  As the treatments progress, the pigmented spots will start to fade.

* It is very important to avoid sun exposure for one week after treatments to reduce the chance of further damage to the skin or increased hyperpigmentation.  Our specialists will advise you as to what products to use after treatments. Don’t forget to apply SPF to the treated area daily.
